Horrific Hit and Run Caught on Camera

Getting into an accident is incredibly scary in the aftermath can be confusing. This is certainly the case when it comes to hit and run accidents. At Colucci, Colucci & Marcus, P.C., our pedestrian accident attorneys in Boston, MA want to discuss a recent hit and run that happened near the intersection of Broadway and Everett Avenue. The incident highlights the dangers posed to pedestrians as well as how helpful video surveillance can be in these cases.

These incidents are often devastating

A recent hit and run collision that happened near the intersection of Broadway and Everett Avenue shows a pedestrian using a designated crosswalk when they were struck by a pickup truck. Video surveillance from a nearby business captured the incident and showed the pedestrian hitting the driver’s side hood of a darker colored truck and then being thrown several feet into the air before striking the pavement.

A few seconds later, the pickup truck pulls alongside the pedestrian and stops for a second before fleeing the scene. The video shows the injured pedestrian getting up and limping to the corner of the intersection. They were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and thankfully only had non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver has since turned themselves in, which is not something that happens often in a hit and run incident. The driver has been cited for leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury, and this citation will be used in a criminal complaint application. In a twist for this case, the driver says he fled the scene because he saw a gun on the ground after the crash. The pedestrian that was struck was carrying a gun at the time and had a license to do so.

How often do pedestrian accidents occur?

It should come as no surprise that pedestrian accidents are a common occurrence in Boston and throughout Massachusetts. There are plenty of pedestrians in and around moving vehicles here, and this commonly leads to severe incidents that cause injuries and even death. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation states that there were over 2000 total pedestrian incidents during the latest reporting year. Out of these incidents, there were more than 1,600 injuries and 54 fatalities. As you can see from the data, most pedestrian accidents that are reported result in a personal injury or death.

Pedestrians have very little protection from the force of vehicles slamming into them, and even low-speed incidents can cause serious injuries. It is not uncommon for our Boston pedestrian accident attorneys to help clients who have sustained:
