A Car Inside A Restaurant? Not As Uncommon As You Think

The last thing you ever want to worry about when you are out on foot, whether walking through a parking lot or down the sidewalk, is that you will be struck by a vehicle. Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents are not uncommon in and around the Boston area. We have plenty of traffic, but there are times when the negligent actions of a driver cause significant pedestrian injuries. Here, we want to discuss a recent accident that should put everyone on alert.

The Car Drove Into The Restaurant

A car recently plowed into a restaurant in nearby Rockland. While this incident may not have occurred in Boston, our area is not immune to odd or often dangerous crashes like this. This particular car accident occurred at Vivi’s Kitchen on VFW Drive at around 11:00 in the morning of July 7, 2020. Law enforcement officials in Rockland say that the driver of a 2010 Toyota Camry was allegedly pulled into a parking place when she lost control of the vehicle.

The 69-year-old woman drove the vehicle completely inside the restaurant. Thankfully, officials say that nobody, including the driver, was injured in the incident. “The cause of the crash appears to be operator error,” a police official said. Had the restaurant been crowded at the time of the crash, or if anybody had been walking on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, this incident could have caused serious injuries or even fatalities.

Pedestrian Accident Frequency

Pedestrian accidents caused by driver error are not uncommon. According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, there were 2,100 total pedestrian crashes during the latest reporting year of data available. Out of these incidents, there were 60 fatalities and 1,671 injuries reported. These statistics indicate that a high percentage of all pedestrian crashes result in some sort of injury or fatality.

Unfortunately, those who survive pedestrian accident incidents often sustain severe injuries that require significant medical assistance. This can include:

The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted many people’s exercise and daily routines and has led to more pedestrian traffic around the roadways. We encourage everybody, both drivers and pedestrians alike, to be aware of their surroundings and watch out for one another.
