There are plenty of risks in and around the roadways of our area. Careless and negligent drivers pose dangers to everybody around them, including pedestrians. A recent accident in nearby Plainville shows us just how much danger pedestrians face each day, even if they are inside buildings. At Colucci, Colucci & Marcus, P.C., our Boston pedestrian accident attorneys are here to help you or your loved one secure compensation after an injury caused by another person’s actions.
How Did This Car End Up In The Laundromat?
The last thing anybody expects when they are inside a building is that they may be injured in a vehicle accident. However, in February 2020, an employee at a laundromat in nearby Plainville was injured after a car smashed through the store’s front window.
According to police, an 85-year-old woman was driving the vehicle when she lost control and crashed through the front window of Bubble King (a joint car wash, laundromat, and dry cleaner). The police say that the woman pressed the accelerator instead of hitting the brake as she pulled into a parking space in front of the building. This caused her vehicle to jump over the curb and plow through the window of the store.
A Bubble King clerk was behind the counter inside of the store when the crash happened. The clerk was taken to the hospital by ambulance after sustaining a leg wound. The driver in the incident was not injured in the crash.
Pedestrian Crashes Happen In A Variety Of Ways
According to data from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, there were 2,029 pedestrian accidents across the Commonwealth during the latest reporting year. Out of these incidents, there were 1,617 total injuries and 54 total fatalities.
Pedestrians in and around Boston are always around moving vehicles. Unfortunately, the human body is not made to withstand the force of an impact on a passenger vehicle. Is not uncommon for our Boston pedestrian accident lawyers to help clients who have sustained the following injuries:
- Spinal cord injuries (with possible paralysis)
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Open head wounds
- Internal organ damage/internal bleeding
- Broken or dislocated bones
- Severe lacerations or amputations
Pedestrian accidents are often caused by the negligent or careless actions of a driver. In some cases, this is due to a failure to obey traffic laws, impaired driving, or distracted driving behaviors. In other cases, a driver makes a mistake. Regardless of how a pedestrian is injured due to the actions of another driver, those injured should be able to secure compensation for what has happened.
